Polio Plus

With monies still coming in to help POLIO PLUS, The International Fellowship of Motorcycling Rotarians (IFMR) North America presented a ceremonial check to the Rotary Foundation Vice-Chair John Germ at the May convention in New Orleans. MCU's President/CEO Hal James serves as IFMR North America Treasurer and he also participates in the local Columbia South Rotary Club.

The IFMR fund-raising effort started in April with each member gathering pledges for the ride. Members came from Seattle, Sacramento, Chicago, Albany and other parts of the country. To date IFMR raised approximately $50,000. Rotarian executives said it was the first time that a Rotary Fellowship had attempted such an ambitious fund-raising effort.

After 20 years of hard work, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating this tenacious disease, but a strong push is needed now to root it out once and for all. The IFMR contribution helps Rotary raise the $200 million needed to match the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation challenge grants totaling $355 million. All of the monies will directly support immunization campaigns in developing countries.

The video below shows the impact the Rotarians have on countries such as India that still need to fight this disease.

In addition to achieving the TOP 100, the Columbia Chapter of Ducks Unlimited increased its efficiency and membership by more than 15%. These results were the best in the state. Rob Perkins, CFO, Receives the Distinguished Club Award From the Missouri-Arkansas Kiwanis District

Rob PerkinsDuring the recent Missouri-Arkansas Kiwanis District Mid-Year Conference in Springfield, Rob Perkins received the Distinguished Club Award on behalf of the Boonslick Kiwanis Club. The award recognizes Perkins for his stellar leadership during 2009-2010 administrative year as the club's President. The Missouri-Arkansas District of Kiwanis International has 216 clubs and only 72 clubs attained the Distinguished Club Honors.

Boonslick Kiwanis Club also tied for second place (out of 216 clubs) under a comprehensive points system with 115 points covering the areas of Service, Leadership Education, and Growth. Only one club out of 216 clubs surpassed the Boonslick Kiwanis Club with 120 points.

"Clearly, second place did not 'just happen'; it took steady consistent leadership to attain this ranking—all in a quest to provide Kiwanis service to children and young adults in the community as well as adults with disabilities," said David Cox, past lieutenant governor of the Missouri-Arkansas District.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
